Van Gogh Reconsidered - October 12, 19, & 26, 2008

Muéo Arts presents… a three-part seminar on the life and work of the legendary artist, Vincent van Gogh. Drawing from first person accounts in Van Gogh's correspondence, we will offer a fresh approach that challenges many of the conventional understandings of the painter's storied career. Discussions considered new questions about the struggle that both plagued and inspired his art... a struggle to reconcile his religious faith with the modern ideas of 19th century Europe.
WEEK ONE - A multi-media presentation by the art scholar Anita Darden on the the most common interpretations of Van Gogh's unusual artistic style and life followed by the introduction some new ideas for discussion about Van Gogh's struggle to with art, family, mental disease, and spirituality.
WEEK TWO - Am art history presentation, with many beautiful digital art reproductions, for those who are not as familiar with Van Gogh's style and where it fits into the past, present, and future art movements of his day.
WEEK THREE - A panel discussion with various Atlanta artists concerning the struggle of art and spirituality as it related to Vincent Van Gogh, and the art and artist of our time.

DANIEL CLAY - August 29th, 2008
Clay's music is as bitter as it is beautiful. With The Protestant, his new album, he soothes you before you have the time to realize you’ve been stung. It provide a picture of a stripped-down world. A world of naked energy, good and bad. A world where the bad sometimes has all the power. But a world where all that is needed to make things right is to call that bad’s bluff. There are no understatements and no frills here. It’s a raw and purely functional lesson in folk music. Or, lesson in honesty. It’s music with a mind, and mouth to speak it. www.danielclaymusic.com
